Jason Fleck from the Excel Sportfisher has dropped in to
update us on current Tuna tactics.
(Jason without a doubt is one of the world's best
Yummee
Fly'n Fish users and he graciously shares his secrets with us
from time to time.)Jim Mckeral(JM): Hi Jason, thanks for
sharing your comments with us and our readers.
Jason Fleck(JF): Your welcome.
JM: I hear you had another great trip recently?
JF: Yes, we were at Hurricane Bank and the Yummees were on
fire!
JM: When are the best times of the year to come fish
with you guys on the Excel and get into this type of Big Tuna
Yummee action?
JF: The best time of the year to catch the big
Yellowfin is Late Fall/Early Winter.
JM: What set up were you using in your recent Hurricane
bank trip?
JF: We were using the 9 Inch Yummee Flyers under 30 inch
helium balloons. We rigged the bait with a J hook out the
back and a treble attached to the J hook. We rubber band
the J hook to the back of the Yummee and we bring the leader out
the back through a small hole in the baits back.
JM: How are you attaching the line to the balloon?
JF: We run the Yummees about 30 feet below the balloon and
attach them with a rubber band.
JM: Looks like the Yummees are holding up well even
after landing these huge Yellowfin Tunas?
JF: Yes, very durable lures-this rig lets them slide up the
leader...
JM: I like the rig your using because it does let them
slide up the line, I have seen people rigging them other ways
that do not let them slide away from the fish and the lures
don't seem to work as well or last as long.
JF: We have rigged these a lot of different ways and this is
working well on these Big 200# class and larger Yellowfin Tuna.
JM: I want to recommend anyone who is interested in
this type of fishing to call the Excel and go fishing with Jason
Fleck. He truly is a world class expert. You can reach the Excel
